Hello again, a year later! How about a real update:
-We got officially engaged on May 8, 2010.
Tyler took me out to a really nice sushi resturant in downtown Salt Lake. Then we took a stroll around temple square ( I was thinking in my head-please don't propose on Temple Square.... haha). As we were leaving, we saw a horse drawn carriage and he suggested that we took a ride. When Tyler was paying, he slipped a note to the driver to drop us off at the front gate of Memory Grove park (which is where my parents took their engagement pictures). After our romantic stroll around the city, the driver ended up dropping us off in the back of the park. As we walked through, I was very impressed with the sculptures that were lit up beautifully. As we were walking out of the park, Tyler suddenly switched directions and suggested that we walk more in the park. We ended up walking up a hill to a stair case. I saw some lights at the top of the stair case and suddenly my heart started pounding. There at the top was a blanket surrounded by candles with rose pedals scattered all around and a big bouchet of red roses : ) There was a bowl of fortune cookies with slips inside saying reasons why he loves me. Keep in mind I was bawling so much that I couldnt them haha... Then he said more sweet nothings and asked me to marry him! And of course I said yes! Turns out he had a couple of accomplices hiding in the bushes filming the whole thing.. (thanks Chaney's)! I couldn't have asked for more!
Can I just say that just because Ty and I have been talking about getting married for a long time, the fact that it is really happening next month is sooo crazy. I have ever emotion possible about it, but I am mostly just so excited to finally marry my best friend. I never thought I would find a boy like him.. haha. Ok, enough with the gushy stuff. Here is what we have been up to.
Tyler:
For anyone that doesn't know him, he is probably one of the most easy going people I know, which is really good for me because I am so not easy going. Some things I first noticed about Tyler is that he is very friendly and social with everyone and he is content with himself. I have always said that I want a tall, smart, and nice boy.... that is exactly how I would describe Tyler!
He recently graduated from BYU with a Biology major and buisness and spanish minors. He is frantically trying to finish up studying for the DAT for dental school, which he will take... ya know, I dont even know when! I get a different answer all the time. Well, he will do it by Aug 26th (our wedding) or there wont be one : ) .. I am only partly kidding! We are applying to mostly west coast dental schools, but we really want to go to a school in AZ so we can take advantage of the market and buy a house.
One of my favorite Tyler quotes:
"I think I am really going to enjoy being a dentist, except the working on teeth part..." haha
Tyler has been more opinionated about the wedding then I would have guessed. He spend three hours in one store picking out his tux. Haha, I think he tried on every combination possible! We came out with one with this bluish tie and he wanted everything else to match it. Haha, after driving to every fabric store in Provo, we gave up trying to find fabric to match it. I have appreciated his help though!
Vanessa (me):
I moved to Provo, Utah a couple weeks after I graduated high school in 2007 and have lived here ever since. I can't believe I have survived so many winters! I am going to start my last semester of nursing school at BYU this September. It has been quite the journey, but I can't believe I am graduating so soon. This fall for capstone, I am working (for free I might add) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. I have already spent a day there, and I couldn't believe how tiny the babies were, I mean tiny!!! It is beyond me how they get IV'S in their veins. Boy are they precious though!
I plan to continue my current LPN jobs at VAMC and USH. Talk to about diversity... I will be working with preemies in an intensive care, old/mostly male veterans on a surgical floor, and psychiatric patients in a lockdown unit. haha.... I will let you know how I am holding up!
This summer for me has consisted of getting up at 5 am 6 days a week (most weeks) to go to work, then coming home and doing P90X, planning the wedding, and going to sleep early while everyone else is playing : ( This month I have been pulling 16 hours shifts at USH.... you heard right, 16. I get there at 6 am and dont leave until 10 at night. Lets just say I have blood shot eyes by the end. That's so not healthy!!!! haha.
I am excited to see everyone at the wedding/reception/open houses. If you haven't yet, please send me your address so we can mail you an invite!!!
Best,
Vanessa & Ty
